`Share your Alternative healing and complimentary therapies

Postby Leah D. on Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:04 am

I have been a firm believer in the belief that our body has the mechanisms to help heal itself from illness and disease. I spend hours and hours searching and researching ways to help myself heal from illness. I have used homeopathic remedies, Natural herbs, as well as whole foods and nutritional supplementation,
I try ..I repeat try to incorporate a regular exercise and fitness schedule for myself as well as any other emotional and spiritual health practices.
The web provides me with endless resources form around the world and across many disciplines. Basically I am an information junkie and I constantly am looking for new ways to think and and do my life.
I have so much stuff and have a need to share it that I thought I would start this thread with links to health and healing and would like any one to share their experience with any kinds of complimentary therapy or alternative approaches to well being that they would like to share....

Probably the 2 most important things I've found that contribute to good health for me:

water and sleep.

I know they sound simple, but there are so many days that go by when I don't drink a drop of water, and then it's 8pm and I'm wondering why my head is splitting! When I drink water - I try the 8 glasses a day thing but I never make it - I feel better.

And sleep... oh sleep... when will I learn to shut the computer off and just go to bed already? If I get less than 6 hours of sleep, I hurt (like physically ache) so badly that it's gotten to the point where I've started dropping things and have trouble walking up stairs! But the next night, where am I? Not in bed sleeping, I'll tell you that. And even when I have sense enough to go to bed, I don't sleep well - but SOME rest is better than NO rest.

And then of course there's exercise (that dirty word!) - tomorrow (yes really, I swear it, I'm starting tomorrow!) I'm going to the YMCA and starting an exercise program with a friend. I don't want to, but I need to. I know it helps.

And vitamins/supplements... I use "real" medicines too but I'd rather use a natural remedy when I can.

This is a great idea for a thread, Leah - I can't wait to read about everybody's healing and therapy experiences!

What do you suggest for "growing pains"? My kiddo has been growing really fast, and is constantly complaining of sore joints, limbs, and back. What do you suggest for more natural methods rather than pain killers? We have used ice packs and the like, but I would love to hear about better alternatives for pain.

Thanks!

Ooo, good question - I am anxiously awaiting some responses for that one! My kidlet grows in spurts, and cries about his legs alot :(

I've heard that bananas can help, in case the kidlet (or adult, too) is low on potassium. We ate bananas until I'm surprised we didn't turn into monkeys, but no help. But they are yummy anyway

I remember those growing pains and I do not recall if we used anything to remedy it other than lotsa hugs and sympathy, but now for my own aches and all I have been using emu cream. it comes from the Australian emu bird. it penetrates the epidermis and relieves inflammation but I don't know about streching limbs. The cream does help with healing and the aborigines have been using the emu oil for centuries. i absolutely love the oil and have healed my varicose veins on my leg. It is great stuff but I don't know if stretching limbs would be something that it helps but its worth a try. Good luck
